The Wolverines have been dealing with Covid issues for the last several days, but they should be able to have the minimum of 7 players clear protocols for this game to be played. Even so, Michigan has had a rough go of it this season, as their record is only 7-6.

Michigan misses Franz Wager (now in the NBA with the Orlando Magic) in a big way. Center Hunter Dickinson is still a beast down low, but he’s really their only scoring threat, other than guard Eli Brooks. Illinois should be able to slow Dickinson down enough to dominate this ballgame.

The Illini are led by center Kofi Cockburn, who is putting together a hell of a year with 22 points per game and 12.5 rebounds per game. Cockburn is a nightmare to defend and if you try to double team him, he’ll simply kick the ball out to Trent Frazier or Alfonso Plummer for an open three.

This Illinois team just has too much firepower and depth for Michigan to hang with. Wolverines coach Juwan Howard has done an excellent job of bringing in talented recruits, but his team is full of freshmen that haven’t truly gelled together as a unit.

Illinois has 4 players that average double figures in points. Michigan only has 2. Throw in the recent covid issues and you can see why we think the Illini win this one by 15 points or more. Lay the points and best of luck with all your Friday college hoops action!
